The biggest game in football just so happened to coincide with Groundhog Day for just the 2nd time over its 54-year history. But it’s the first time that renowned actor Bill Murray has ever appeared in a commercial that wasn’t promoting a movie he was starring in.
And he just so happens to share the screen with the 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, which is used by Murray’s iconic character Phil Connors from the movie Groundhog Day as he relives the infamous day 27 years after the film came out.
The Gladiator Rubicon acts as the replacement getaway vehicle as Phil Connors kidnaps Punxsutawney Phil, America’s favorite groundhog, after he encounters his old friend Ned Ryerson whose role is reprised by Stephen Tobolowsky and Punxsutawney’s own Buster Green whose role is reprised by Brian Doyle Murray.
Even though the day started the same with the alarm clock blaring “I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher at 6 am, many aspects were better as seen during the Big Game thanks to the unique design & driving experience of the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon.
Watch Jeep’s 2020 Big Game Ad
Many of the same locations in Woodstock IL were used in shooting the 2020 Big Game commercial as were used while shooting the move back in 1993. The bike that you see Bill Murray riding in the ad is actually the all-new Jeep e-Bike powered by QuietKat that will be unveiled in June.
Even though merchandise inspired by this commercial like shirts, hats & stuffed animals is only available here (for now), the Jeep Gladiator pickup truck is in stock here at Dutchess Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram!
