The EcoDiesel engine is something that RAM trucks is very pleased to bring into the fold.  It meets compliance requests for all emissions in all 50 states. It is pioneering in the field with oxidation catalyst, selective catalytic reduction and a particulate filter.   The engine produces enough torque to attain a towing capability of 9,200 pounds.  The fuel efficiency is a great 29 miles per gallon of gasoline driving on the highway.  The 3.0- liter is turbocharged which gives it 240 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.  The engine itself is well known and is a V-6 with 24 valves and is widely available for you.  There are also a couple more engine options including the legendary V-8 engine with HEMI technology, 5.7-liters and fuel saving technology allowing for engine cylinders to be shut completely off when the operator desires.  A situation where this would come in handy is when the need for all of the RAM power is simply not needed.  At full power the engine produces 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque and still achieves 22 miles per gallon.  The 3.6-liter V-6 is the base engine in the Ram 1500. Rated at 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, it has enough power for hauling and is rated at 17 miles per gallon city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway.  This is the most efficient pickup in its class. The eight-speed automatic works well with this engine. Another really cool thing is that all of these setups are attached to a TorqueFlight transmission.

Reducing parasitic electrical load on the alternator is Pulse-width modulation and other systems for fuel consumption improvement. Variable displacement compressor technology changes the way the compressor works in harmony with other systems to meet cabin air demands.  Once the desired temperature is reached the compressor motor reduces its function and maintains.  The load on the engine is decreased and saves on overall fuel consumption.
